Check out these fun videos about human rights!! These are the same rights we discussed in lesson 4. You should be able to list a few of these rights on your test this week :) This week, we will finish the last lesson in Unit 1. For Thursday, students need to:
Students should also start revising for the test. Study from the copybook and the workbook. Be ready to turn in the workbook on test day. Starting next week, one student per lesson will have an opportunity to share an interesting story from somewhere else in the world. Students will need find an appropriate article, then summarize the: who, what, when, where, and why of that article. They will also need to explain who this event affects and explain why this event is important. On their presentation day, students will have 3 - 5 minutes to share what they learned with the class. The following websites have fantastic kid friendly articles. While these articles are written with elementary and middle school students in mind, I would still encourage this assignment to be completed with a parent, in order to ensure that all articles are school appropriate.
Below, is a completed example of what is expected, a blank copy of worksheet that must be completed, and the signup sheets. Click on the PDF for your class and double check when you are scheduled to present!
This past week, we read Unit 1 Lesson 1: The United Nations. Students were asked to complete the corresponding lesson in their workbook, pages 6 - 7. For next week, students need to read Unit 1 Lesson 2: Organs of the United Nations and complete pages 8 & 9 in their workbook. Workbook pages are due next Thursday. In this crazy video, the narrator talks really fast, but there are subtitles that can help you follow along. If you listen carefully, you will learn some important information about the United Nations!Only one more week until students present their final projects!! In class, students have been collecting notes about the geography of Egypt, religion and the afterlife, pharaohs, and accomplishments. At home, students should be turning these notes into paragraphs, creating illustrations to match, and pasting their work on a medium sized bag. Students can earn up to 3 bonus points by putting Egyptian themed props inside of the bag. I have attached the final project mini-packet, a list of pages numbers for where some of the information can be found, and a few documents to help with the pharaoh research. Please note that I will not be posting a completed copy of the mini-packet. Students are being given ample time in class to complete their own notes or copy mine from the board. They need to make good use of this time. Please contact me if you have any questions.
Helpful WebsitesThese kid friendly websites can help students with their research. Remember, that all of the notes and the final paragraphs must be written in the student's own words. Students will lose marks if they copy information from the textbook or the internet.
In class this week, students have been working on mini-posters about Chapter 4 Lesson 3: The Middle Kingdom. Students have had two periods to read the lesson and create a small poster with information and pictures. We will be presenting these posters in class on Thursday (Wednesday in 5D), so whatever was not finished in class, must be finished at home. This assignment will be graded as homework # 3. See the attachment for more details. ![]()

This week we will wrap up our conversation about Egyptian religion, the afterlife and mummifications. I am posting the PowerPoints from class, so that students may catch up on any missing notes. The videos summarize what we have discussed. Also attached is the criteria for our first homework assignment!! Students must research one of the Egyptian gods, write 5 sentences describing this god, and draw a colorful picture to bring their work to life. All picture and writing must be the student's own work. Work that is printed or copied from the internet will not be accepted.
This week we discussed why the Nile River valley was a good placed to live and how the Nile River valley influenced Ancient Egyptian religion. At home this weekend, students should complete the Egyptian god fold-able and illustrate a picture for each of these characters. The reading is attached. Be advised, our first copybook check is coming!! Students should have the following six assignments completed by next Wednesday:

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a relaxing and fun filled spring break. This week we began our unit on the Ancient Egyptians. In class, students completed a textbook scavenger hunt and labeled a map of Egypt. Over the weekend, I would like students to please read Chapter 4 Lesson 1: The Nile Valley (pages 134 - 139) in the red textbook. Students should then complete the Nile Valley worksheet in their copybook. If students can become familiar with the information at home, we will be able to do more fun and interactive activities in class, and won't have to take so many notes!! The worksheets from class are attached. Also, check out the cool YouTube videos about the Ancient Egyptians. These videos are a nice introduction to some of the topics we will be discussing this term.
