Copybook CheckThis is the rubric I will use to grade the students' copybooks. Please make sure that all of the worksheets are neatly attached. If you are missing an assignment, please see the attachments below. Print a new copy and complete it before class on:
Vocabulary and HomeworkLast week we reviewed four of the vocabulary words from the homework and introduced three new vocabulary words. Students should have a chart of these words, their definitions, and sentences drawn into their copybook. See the attachment for an example of what this chart should look like. Homework: Unit 5 Lesson 3 - Types of Money
Introducing the Classroom EconomyFor the rest of term 3, we will be running a classroom economy simulation in Grade 4 Social Studies. Students will earn "money" when they are on time to class, complete their work, show TRUST, and are responsible. Students will lose "money" if they are tardy, do not complete their work on time, forget their supplies, or do not display TRUST.
Students will need to very carefully record all of their credits and debits in their savings book. Please note that this savings book will be collected and graded as a classwork mark. Students will need to pay "rent" once a month. They will also have an opportunity to make purchases from my class store at the end of each week. Items for sale will include: stickers, supplies, candies, and small books. At the end of the term, I will hold a Grade 4 auction where larger items will be available for sale. If you would like to donate books or small toys to auction celebration, please feel free! Please note that our auction will be during the last week of classes: June 12 - 16. Participating in this simulation, will give students a much deeper understanding of money, banking, and personal responsibility. It should be fun!! Unit 5 Lesson 1: What is Money?Welcome back Fourth Graders!! I hope you all had a lovely holiday. This week, we are going to jump right into our next unit: Money and Banking. At home, you should read pages 78 --> 80 in the Compass textbook and do pages 46 -> 49 in the Compass workbook. You can earn a bonus mark, by completing Questions 6 on a separate A4 piece of paper - create a mini-poster with examples of the currency in your home country. This task is due on:
The End of Unit 6This week, we will conclude our unit 6 study of pollution. I will be checking workbooks before the test on Thursday March 17. Students need to study from their copybook, Compass textbook, and Compass workbook. I will also be collecting copybooks on Thursday. The check will include:

All of the worksheets and papers are attached. These papers should all be neatly glued into students' copybooks.
Copybook CheckThis week I will be collecting and checking students' copybooks. Students must have the following assignments completed by Tuesday:
Test CorrectionsStudents that got less than 70% (12.5 out of 18) will be able to do test corrections and earn back half of the points they missed, up to 70%. Please follow these directions carefully:
Unit 2 Geography TestAttached below are all of the Unit 2 Compass workbook answers. For the region section, make sure you look at the notes we wrote in class! Carefully reread the lessons in the hardcover Compass textbook. Make sure you know each theme of geography and examples. In class, we discussed how the themes of geography can be used to describe our home country. Students were asked to think about how they can describe their home using: movement, region, human environment interaction, and place. For each category, students need to write a definition and draw a picture. Below is a fantastic example from Aws in 4C!
Unit 2 Lesson 5: Regions & Wrap-UpThis week will end our study of the themes of geography. For next week, students should finish pages 22 & 23 in the Compass workbooks. Students should be ready to turn in their Compass book to be checked on Sunday February 7th.
The unit 2 test is on Thursday February 11. Start studying pages Study pages 14 - 23 in the Compass workbook. If students want extra practice, you can use pages 4 --> 9, 12 --> 19, 20 - 21, 34 - 35, 48 - 49, & 74 - 75 in Maps, Globes and Graphs as revision questions. Answers to all of these pages will be posted on Sunday February 7. Unit 2 Lesson 4: MovementThis week in class we will study movement. We will look at how the way we exchange goods and ideas impacts our lives. Students should read pages 32 - 36 in the Compass textbook. Students should also complete pages 19 - 21 in their Compass workbook.
Unit 2 Lessons 3: Human Environment InteractionThis week we learned about Human Environment Interaction: how the environment effects the way people act, and how people's actions effect the environment.
